Candlelight Vigil For The Victims
The community came together to share their memories and grief at the vigil, which was arranged by Treena Upcott, Victoria Cranston, and Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy, three of Carly’s friends. When Darrow Woods, the pastor of Harrow United Church, remarked, “We wish things were different,” he was speaking for many people. We could attempt to rationalize something nonsensical.
A young girl who introduced herself as “Madi’s best friend” had a moving moment during the vigil when she sobbed, “I want them to fly high,” expressing her love and sorrow. The family is still receiving support from the community. Donations have been gathered by the Harrow Rotary Club, under the direction of Mayor Bondy, to assist with burial expenses. At the Open Streets event on Friday night in downtown Harrow, contributions will be collected.
The Harrow community is showing resiliency and unity in the face of such a horrible tragedy. Insisting that people help one another and never forget the goodness that is still present in the world, Pastor Woods captured the mood of the group. The community continues to rely on one another while they wait for more information from the authorities and the Walsh family’s funeral plans.
